Gorguts have always been at the forefront of technical death metal, and with Pleiades’ Dust, they have taken a typical progressive metal staple - the multi-movement, lengthy single song - and have applied their brand of heavily dissonant and very complex metal to this structure. Like their incredible 2013 effort Colored Sands, this is a concept album, and like that album, this features very thoughtful lyrics, incredible production, and dazzling technicality. Where Pleiades’ Dust is superior to Colored Sands (and all other Gorguts albums) is in terms of how much more dynamic it is, never once remotely remaining anything less than spellbinding throughout its 33-minute runtime. This is legit. Ippocalyptica
Serious skill for a one man band, major props are due for creating something this atmospheric and menacing. Cavernous death metal with vibes reminding one of Ulcerate. Would be in the upper echelon of albums released in 2018. Absolutely recommended Heterodontosauridae
